Patty Melts

This is a play on the classic patty melt! I used to eat 1 and sometimes two of these in a sitting back in highschool and WERE BRINGING THEM BACK! Sweet Grass Dairy just developed a new sourdough sandwich style loaf of bread and it is the perfect soft and pillowy texture! Patty melts are like a combination of a burger and a hot sandwich like a panini! They are rich from the burger, sweet  from the caramelized onion, creamy from the mozzarella cheese and the sweet mustard mayo for it is out of control! These will be the perfect addition to your memorial day celebration and will have your family impressed and drooling over your shoulder waiting for them to finish. They go together completely on the grill and get a nice smokey, charred flavor from the screaming hot charcoal! I hope you enjoy these as much as I did!

Makes roughly 4 Sandwiches

1 loaf SweetGrass Sourdough Sandwich style loaf

1 block SweetGrass Mozzarella Cheese

1.5 lb SweetGrass ground beef

6 Tbsp SweetGrass butter

2 Sweet onions

3 Tbsp Mustard

3 Tbsp Mayo

3 Tbsp Honey

Dill Pickle Chips

  1. 1. Start your grill and get it nice and hot.
  2. 2. Caramelize your onions slow and low in butter. Add salt to help speed the process.
  3. 3. Shred your cheese and mix it with your onions once they are done.
  4. 4. Combine your mayo, mustard and honey in a bowl. Set that aside.
  5. 5. Slice your onions and set them aside.
  6. 6. Butter the outside of all your pieces of bread.
  7. 7. Form your ¼ pound to ⅓ pound patties and make sure they are nice and thin. Season them well with salt.
  8. 8. Sear your burgers on both sides and toast your bread on the cooler spots of your grill.
  9. 9. Sauce the inside of your bread, add pickles on one side, top the pickles with your patty and add the cheese onion mixture on top!
  10. 10. Place the top piece of bread on and move your sandwich to a cooler spot of the grill and close the lid. Allow these cheese to get super melty!
  11. 11. Dig in and enjoy!
